Supported Formats
Adapterry reads four common video formats and turns them into one: MP4. Here is what you can add today and what you get back.
MP4
MPEG-4 Part 14
Can be an inputCan be an outputThe most widely supported video format, used by phones, cameras and nearly every website.
Most Android phones, action cameras and screen recorders save MP4 files, and it's what most apps export. Adapterry always outputs MP4. MP4 clips from the same source are usually joined without re-encoding.
File extensions: .mp4
MOV
QuickTime File Format
Can be an inputApple's video format, used by iPhones, Macs and many cameras.
iPhone videos and Mac screen recordings are usually MOV files, with H.264 or HEVC (H.265) video inside. Adapterry turns them into MP4 so they play on Windows and Android. Matching H.264 clips are joined without re-encoding.
File extensions: .mov, .qt
AVI
Audio Video Interleave
Can be an inputAn older Windows video format, common on camcorders and digital cameras.
AVI files often hold DivX or Xvid video (MPEG-4 Part 2) with MP3 audio, which many phones, TVs and editors won't play. Adapterry always fully converts AVI to H.264 video and AAC audio.
File extensions: .avi
VOB
DVD Video Object
Can be an inputThe file type DVDs use to store movies, split into parts of about 1 GB.
You'll find VOB files in a DVD's VIDEO_TS folder, named like VTS_01_1.VOB and VTS_01_2.VOB. Adapterry merges them in order, deinterlaces the picture and keeps the first audio track. Copy-protected discs are not supported.
File extensions: .vob
What you can add
You can add MOV, AVI, VOB and MP4 files, and you can mix them in one job. A phone clip, an old camcorder AVI and a DVD file can all go into the same video.
What you get back
Every job produces a single MP4 file with H.264 video and AAC audio. This is the most widely supported combination, so the file plays on Windows, Mac, iPhone, Android and most smart TVs, and most websites accept it as an upload.
When your files already match (H.264, AAC, same resolution, frame rate and audio settings), they are joined without re-encoding. Everything else is converted at good quality, up to 1920x1080 and 60 fps.
Why the output is always MP4
One output format keeps things clear. You don't have to choose codecs or settings, and you know the file will open on the device you care about.
More formats coming
We plan to add more input formats over time. If the format you need isn't listed yet, check back here. This list is updated when new support goes live.
Questions and answers
Can one job include MOV, AVI and VOB files together?
Yes. Add them in any combination and put them in order. They are converted to one shared format and saved as a single MP4.
Can I export to MOV or AVI instead?
Not at the moment. Every result is an MP4, which plays on more devices than either of those.
Are MKV or WebM files supported?
Not yet. Today Adapterry accepts MOV, AVI, VOB and MP4.
What codecs are inside the output MP4?
H.264 video and AAC audio. When a conversion is needed, the audio is set to 128 kbps, 48 kHz stereo.
