Merge MKV Files into One Video

Join several MKV files, like OBS recordings split into parts, into one video. Save it as MP4 by default, or as MOV, AVI, VOB or MP3. Everything happens in your browser.

How to merge MKV files

  1. Add the MKV files

Drop your .mkv recordings or downloads onto the page. Files are listed in natural filename order, so part_2 comes before part_10.

  2. Confirm the order

Check that the parts play in the right sequence. Drag any file to a new spot or move it with the arrow buttons.

  3. Pick the output and merge

MP4 is selected by default. Switch to MOV, AVI, VOB or MP3 if you need to, then click Merge & convert and download the file.

What happens to audio tracks and subtitles

MKV files often carry more than one audio track, such as two languages, plus subtitles. Adapterry keeps the first audio track of each file and leaves subtitles out of the merged video.

If every MKV uses H.264 video and AAC audio with matching settings, and you save as MP4 or MOV, the parts are joined without re-encoding. HEVC video, AC3 or Opus audio, and clips that don't match are fully converted, which takes longer on your computer.

Questions and answers

Can I merge OBS recordings saved as MKV?

Yes. OBS saves MKV by default, so add the parts in order and merge them. If they share the same H.264 and AAC settings and you pick MP4 or MOV, they are joined without re-encoding.

Are subtitles kept when MKV files are merged?

No. Subtitles are not carried over to the merged file. Only the video and the first audio track of each MKV are used.

My MKV has two audio tracks. Which one is kept?

The first one. Any other audio tracks in the file are left out of the merged video.

Can I merge MKV files with HEVC video?

Yes. HEVC is converted to H.264 for MP4 and MOV, or to the codecs of the format you choose. That is a full conversion, so it takes longer than a quick join.

Can I mix MKV with MP4 or MOV clips?

Yes. Add any supported formats to the same list. Clips that don't match are converted to one shared format, and the first clip sets the frame size.
