How to trim a video

  1. Add your clip

Drop the video onto the page. Add several clips if you want to trim each one and join them into one video.

  2. Set start and end

Click Trim on a clip and type a start and end time, like 1:05 or 65.5. Leave End empty to keep the rest. For files your browser can play, set the start or end from the small player.

  3. Save the trimmed video

Pick the output format and click Trim & convert. The trimmed clips come out as one file, ready to download.

Supported formats

Exact cuts, any format

Adapterry re-encodes trimmed clips, so each cut lands on the exact frame you chose. That takes longer than a plain copy, but the video starts and ends right where you set it.

The small player works for formats your browser can play, which mostly means MP4, MOV, WebM and M4V. For other formats, such as AVI, VOB or MTS, type the times instead. The result can be MP4, MOV, AVI, VOB, or an MP3 if you only want the sound.

Questions and answers

Will trimming cut on the exact frame?

Yes. Trimmed clips are re-encoded, so the cut lands on the frame you picked rather than somewhere close to it.

Why can't I use the player for my AVI or VOB file?

Browsers can't play every format. For AVI, VOB and some others, type the start and end times instead. The trim works the same way.

Can I trim several clips and join them?

Yes. Add them all, set a start and end time on each, and they are merged into one file in list order.

Can I trim a video and keep only the audio?

Yes. Choose MP3 as the output and you get the sound from the part you kept as an MP3.

Does trimming lower the quality?

The trimmed clips are re-encoded. For MP4 and MOV that means H.264 at CRF 23, a setting that looks good for most home video.
