Converting one VOB or a whole DVD
Each VOB file holds about 1 GB of video at most, which is often only part of a movie. If you want the whole film as one file, add VTS_01_1.VOB, VTS_01_2.VOB and the rest in order, and Adapterry merges them into one MP4.
DVD video is usually interlaced, which shows up as thin horizontal lines on moving objects on a computer screen. Adapterry deinterlaces the video during conversion and keeps the first audio track. Extra languages and commentary are left out.
Questions and answers
What is a VOB file?
VOB stands for Video Object. It's the file type DVDs use to store the movie, menus and audio, and it sits inside the VIDEO_TS folder.
Why does my VOB file only have part of the movie?
DVDs split a movie into files of about 1 GB. Add all the VTS_01 files in order (1, 2, 3 and so on) to get the full film in one MP4.
Can I convert a VOB file from a copy-protected DVD?
No. CSS-encrypted discs are not supported. Home videos burned to DVD and other unprotected discs convert fine.
Why are there lines across my DVD video on a computer?
That's interlacing, a leftover from TV broadcasting. Adapterry deinterlaces DVD video so the MP4 looks clean on modern screens.
Which audio track ends up in the MP4?
The first audio track on the disc. If your DVD has several languages or a commentary, only the first one is kept.
