How to convert MTS to MP4
Find the MTS files
On the camcorder's card, open PRIVATE, then AVCHD, BDMV and STREAM. Drop 00000.MTS and the other numbered files onto the page.
Join and convert
Click Convert to MP4. The files are listed in number order, so the parts of one recording join up correctly. The video is deinterlaced and the AC3 sound becomes AAC.
Keep the MP4
Watch the preview to check the joins, then download one MP4 you can share or keep.

AVCHD footage and MTS files
AVCHD camcorders from Sony, Panasonic, Canon and others store recordings in PRIVATE/AVCHD/BDMV/STREAM as files named 00000.MTS, 00001.MTS and so on. A long recording is often split across several files, so merging them in order gives you the whole video in one MP4.
MTS footage is usually H.264, often 1080i interlaced, with AC3 (Dolby Digital) sound. Because of the AC3 audio, MTS to MP4 is a full conversion: the video is deinterlaced and re-encoded to H.264, and the sound becomes AAC. Files ending in .m2ts are accepted too.
Questions and answers
Where are the MTS files on my camcorder's card?
Look in PRIVATE/AVCHD/BDMV/STREAM. The videos there are numbered 00000.MTS, 00001.MTS and so on. Copy them to your computer first if that's easier.
Why is one recording split into 00000.MTS and 00001.MTS?
AVCHD camcorders often split a long recording across several files. Add them all and Adapterry merges them in number order into one MP4.
Why isn't MTS to MP4 a quick copy?
The camcorder's AC3 sound has to become AAC, and 1080i video is deinterlaced, so it is a full conversion. A long recording can take several minutes.
Will 1080i camcorder video look right on a computer?
Yes. Interlaced video is deinterlaced during conversion, so fast motion doesn't show the comb lines interlaced footage can have on computer screens.
Does it work with .m2ts files too?
Yes. M2TS is the Blu-ray and AVCHD sibling of MTS, and Adapterry accepts it the same way.
