How to convert MTS to MP3

  1. Open the STREAM folder

On the camcorder's card, go to PRIVATE/AVCHD/BDMV/STREAM and copy 00000.MTS, 00001.MTS and the rest of the recording.

  2. Merge the clips to MP3

Add the files (they line up by number) and click Merge & convert to MP3. The Dolby Digital sound becomes one 192 kbps stereo MP3.

  3. Check the recording

Play the MP3 on the page to check nothing is missing at the joins, then download it and share it with family or the event's organizers.

Camcorder sound in MTS files

AVCHD camcorders from Sony, Panasonic, Canon and others save MTS files, usually with H.264 video and AC3 (Dolby Digital) sound. A long recording is often split across several numbered files, which is why one event can fill a whole folder.

Adapterry joins the MTS files in the order of the list and writes the first audio track as a 192 kbps, 48 kHz stereo MP3. Files from a Blu-ray style folder that end in .m2ts are accepted too and work the same way.

Questions and answers

Why is one camcorder recording split into several MTS files?

AVCHD camcorders start a new file during long recordings. Add them all, 00000.MTS first, and they are joined into one MP3.

Will the MTS files be in the right order?

Yes. They are sorted by number when you add them, 00000.MTS before 00001.MTS, and you can still drag them to change the order.

Can I convert .m2ts files to MP3 as well?

Yes. M2TS is a close relative of MTS, so add those files the same way and choose MP3.

What if the camcorder footage was filmed with the mic off?

Then the MTS files have no audio track and no MP3 can be made from them. Adapterry shows a message saying so.

Can I hear the camcorder audio before saving?

Yes. Browsers can't play MTS, but the finished MP3 plays on the page, so you can listen and then click Download MP3.
