How to convert MKV to MP3
Open your OBS recording
Find the .mkv file in the folder OBS records to and drop it onto the page, or add several files for a long session.
Pick MP3 and convert
Choose MP3 and click Convert to MP3. Adapterry reads the first audio track of the MKV and writes it as a 192 kbps stereo MP3.
Review the episode
Play the MP3 on the page to check the levels and the ending, then download it and load it into your podcast host or editor.

MKV recordings and their audio tracks
MKV is a container that can hold several audio tracks, subtitles and many codecs, and OBS saves recordings as MKV by default. The sound inside is often AAC, AC3 or Opus. An MP3 is far easier to share and plays almost everywhere.
Only the first audio track goes into the MP3, at 192 kbps, 48 kHz stereo. If your OBS setup records the mic and the desktop sound on separate tracks, make sure the mix you want is track 1. Several MKV files are joined in list order.
Questions and answers
My MKV has several audio tracks. Which one do I get?
The first one. Other tracks, such as a separate mic or a second language, are left out, and subtitles are not carried over.
OBS split my stream into several MKV files. Can I join them?
Yes. Add every file, check they are in order (names are sorted naturally) and click Merge & convert to MP3 for one episode.
Is 192 kbps good enough for a podcast?
Yes. 192 kbps, 48 kHz stereo is more than enough for voices, and most podcast hosts accept MP3 files at that quality.
Why does my MKV say there is no sound?
If the recording was made with audio muted, the file has no audio track and no MP3 can be made from it. Check your OBS audio settings for next time.
Can I listen to the MKV audio before saving?
Yes. The MP3 plays in a small player on the page as soon as it is ready, so you can check it before downloading.
