Merge MPG Files into One Video

How to merge MPG files

  1. Copy the MPG files over

Copy the .mpg or .mpeg files from the camera, recorder or capture folder to your computer, then drop them onto the page.

  2. Check the running order

Files are sorted by name in natural order, so CLIP2.MPG lands before CLIP10.MPG. Drag any file that belongs somewhere else.

  3. Merge to one file

Leave the output on MP4 or pick another format, then click Merge & convert. MPG is fully converted, so long recordings take a while.

Old MPEG video, cleaned up

MPG files hold MPEG-1 or MPEG-2 video, the same family Video CDs and DVDs use. Few modern phones and editors handle it well, so Adapterry fully converts every MPG clip, to H.264 and AAC when you save as MP4 or MOV.

Video from DVD recorders and capture cards is often interlaced, which shows thin lines on moving objects. Adapterry deinterlaces the frames marked as interlaced and leaves the others alone. Clips without sound get silence, so every part joins.

Questions and answers

Can I merge .mpeg and .mpg files together?

Yes. Both extensions hold the same kind of video, so add them to one list in any mix and set the order.

Will merged MPG footage still show lines on motion?

It shouldn't. Adapterry deinterlaces frames marked as interlaced, which removes the comb-like lines on moving objects.

Why is MPG always fully converted?

MP4 and MOV from Adapterry hold H.264 video and AAC audio, so MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 video has to be re-encoded. AVI and VOB outputs are always re-encoded too.

Can I make a DVD project from my MPG clips?

Yes. Pick VOB and the merged file comes out as MPEG-2 with AC3 sound at DVD resolution. Open it in DVD authoring software to build and burn the disc.

Will the merged MPG video be in HD?

Not if the source isn't. The output keeps the first clip's size, so standard definition footage stays standard definition.
