Broadcast sound in a TS file

TS (MPEG transport stream) is how digital TV and radio are broadcast, so set-top boxes, DVB tuners and IPTV recorders save their recordings as .ts files. A radio channel on digital TV is recorded the same way, often with a still picture.

Adapterry takes the first audio track and writes a 192 kbps, 48 kHz stereo MP3. If a channel carried more than one language, only the first track is kept. A show recorded in several TS parts can be joined into one MP3 in list order.

Questions and answers

Can I get the MP3 of a radio channel recorded on my TV box?

Yes. Digital radio channels on satellite, cable or antenna TV are saved as TS files too. Add the file and choose MP3.

Which audio track of the TS recording is used?

The first one. A second language or an audio description track is left out of the MP3.

My recorder split the show into parts. Can I get one MP3?

Yes. Add every .ts part in order and click Merge & convert to MP3. Files are sorted by name, and you can reorder them.

Why does my TS file say it has no sound?

Some recordings or downloads only hold a video stream. Without audio there is nothing to turn into an MP3, and Adapterry says so.

Can I play the TS soundtrack before downloading?

Yes. Browsers can't always play TS files, but the MP3 plays in the small player on the page once it is ready.
