How to convert MTS to MOV
Copy the clips from STREAM
Open PRIVATE/AVCHD/BDMV/STREAM on the camcorder's card and drop the .mts files you need onto the page.
Convert to a MOV for editing
Set the output to MOV and click Convert to MOV. The 1080i video is deinterlaced and re-encoded to H.264, and the AC3 sound is turned into AAC.
Import into your editor
Preview the result, download the MOV and drag it into your iMovie or Final Cut Pro project.

Camcorder footage ready for Mac editing
AVCHD camcorders save H.264 video, often 1080i interlaced, with AC3 (Dolby Digital) sound inside .mts files. The MOV from Adapterry has deinterlaced H.264 video and AAC sound, a mix iMovie and Final Cut Pro import directly.
Because the sound is AC3, MTS to MOV is a full conversion. If one take was split into 00000.MTS and 00001.MTS, add both and they are merged in order into one MOV, so you edit a single clip instead of fragments.
Questions and answers
Can Final Cut Pro use the MOV straight away?
Yes. It holds H.264 video and AAC audio in a QuickTime MOV, which Final Cut Pro and iMovie import directly.
Should I convert the whole AVCHD folder?
No. Only the .mts files in PRIVATE/AVCHD/BDMV/STREAM hold video. Add the ones you want and leave the other folders alone.
How do I get one clip from a take split across several MTS files?
Add all the parts. They are listed in number order, 00000.MTS before 00001.MTS, and merged into one MOV.
Is my 1080i footage deinterlaced for editing?
Yes. Interlaced frames are deinterlaced during conversion, so the MOV looks clean in iMovie and Final Cut Pro on a computer screen.
Will the MOV keep full HD?
Yes. The frame size is kept up to 1920x1080, which covers full HD camcorder footage. The video is re-encoded at a quality setting that looks good for most home video.
