How to convert M4V to MP3

What M4V files you can use

M4V is Apple's variant of MP4. iPhone and Mac exports and HandBrake often save it, usually with H.264 video and AAC sound. If the file plays without asking for an Apple account, it is unprotected and Adapterry can read it.

Movies and shows bought from the iTunes Store are copy-protected (DRM), and those can't be converted. For your own videos, Adapterry writes the first audio track as a 192 kbps, 48 kHz stereo MP3, and several M4V files are joined in list order.

Why won't my iTunes movie convert to MP3?

Purchased iTunes movies and shows are copy-protected with DRM. Adapterry can't read them. Unprotected M4V files work fine.

How do I know if my M4V is copy-protected?

Movies and shows bought from the iTunes Store are protected. Files you exported from an iPhone, a Mac or HandBrake are not.

Can I combine several M4V soundtracks in one MP3?

Yes. Add the files, drag them into order and click Merge & convert to MP3. Their audio is placed back to back.

My M4V slideshow has no sound. Can it become an MP3?

No. Without an audio track there is nothing to save, and Adapterry shows a message instead of an empty MP3.
